Is this the right banana for me?

Hello friends !

Somebody offers me Grand Nain, Little Prince, and Musa Daijo.

I don't know if these are really the musa's i'm looking for. I think they get quiet big ? and alsow these are all musa species grown for the bananas i think ?

Except little prince. This is a type of Super - super dwarf cavendish i presume?

Do you have bad or good expriences with growing these fellows? i don't like super slow growing musa's and big break out the roof plants aren't interesting because they all have to go in house this winter, because i still don't have a greenhouse !!

The grand Nain gives the chiquita banana´s its in the subgroup of the cavendisch. between 6 -7 feet or 1.80m - 2.13m

The Daijao is Not so long on the commercial market in info is rear.
Have one 2.
Think the future brings more info

I think You should probably do some research on the Wiki to find out what size would work for you. I know Grand Nain only grows 8-10' little prince I think grows to 3'.

This might help friend:
Daijao (I have just a small plant but compared to others) will be at maturity about 3,5 meters high
Grand Nain about 2,3 meters high
and Little Prince is discussed and documented here:

I fully discovered the bananas wiki now. And it's already a very complete source.

I already bought the plants. But I still don't have them. I will have to tune down a bit now the musa expenses or my wife will get pretty annoyed.

But i'm really exited to have them.

The biggest problem is the winter here. I have to invest in a greenhouse to make a good microclimat.

Friends,

I'm hijacking my own topic because I have done some thinking, and i don't want to start a new subject because in a way it's related to the size of the musa too.

I always considerd i have Cavendish and Dwarf Cavendish, but i'm starting to suspect that maybe what I have is Dwarf Cavendish and Super Dwarf Cavendish.

I was looking for a SDC, but maybe i already have 4 without knowing it

These were the first banana plants I bought, in a commercial plant store. So I don't think the normal Cavendish is something that is popular in the standard commercial circuit.

Could someone confirm this ?

My 'bigger' type Cavendish is now something like 1.6 meters high. I read it can get 1.8m if its a Dwarf.

Can you experts take a look at the p-stem and give me your opinion ?

I'm not too sure on your "Cavendish". I haven't seen many that aren't Dwarves to begin with. Now with your "Dwarf Cavendish", I believe that may be a Super Dwarf.

How long have you had both of them? They may be labeled correctly, but possibly are not growing to their full extent because their container is too small. Just a thought though, others are much better at this than me.

1.6 Meters is the size of my Dwarf Cavendish!! It is a dwarf and it is probably the most commonly grown banana.

I think that your Cavendish is actually Dwarf Cavendish, but your Dwarf Cavendish seems to be a Dwarf Cavendish as well.
Try repotting them (both need it) and you will see. I also advise you to look into Ante's gallery (user Dalmatiansoap) and he has there pics of DC and the pup. You can compare them. Don't worry about the SDC, it's the banana you can buy anywhere in Europe...

My Cavendish from a friend as a small pup grew to 2+ meters tall in 1 season. However, its mother plant grew to a height of 3-4 meters (p-stem only) in Florida's weather. My DC is potted and looks nothing like my Cav.
