Project Office-Banana

Hey Guys,

it's been a while since my last posts. I moved to Stuttgart and got a nice office to put my plants in ;)

At the moment there is a Veinte Cohol I bought from Gekko-Enterprises (good guy but EU-Customs is just ugly for shipping plants ;)

Than I got a very tiny banana.. I guess some sort of Super-Dwarf-Cavendish.. and last but not least (because a fig is about to move in too) a grocery-store bought baby-pineapple-head planted in and just started to grow about a week agoooooooo..

Here are some pics ;):08:

Baby Banana Pup the day i cut it of the mother at my brothers:

The baby today ;)

Veinte Cohol some days after I got it and potted it:

Veinte Cohol chocked some how.. so i helped it:

3 Bananas.. Front is allready gone :( It was a Red Dwarf.. back left is the Veinte Cohol and back right the Baby Pup:

Moved the Veinte Cohol to my office:

Veinte Cohol after I repotted it is doing great since the two new leafes are out (pineapple in the back):

Pineapple with small roots after I gave it up pulled it out and decided to keep it ;)

sorry for not uploading to my gallery.. I tried and tried.. and there werer just too many pics to upload to upload 4 at a time and fail for 12 times.. to get 1 pic uploaded... don't know what happened there...

Where did you get the clear pot? Good idea for checking root production.:goteam:

Re: Project Office-Banana

it's an orchid pot.. its good for checking the growth but its not good for the roots.. they avoid light I guess (I allready repotted it anyway..) Oh and it helps alga (don't know if its right) growth.. so green everywhere ;)

oh btw.. the veinte cohol got 1cm root growth in 10 hours ;)

sounds good! I will try to find some give it a try but will try putting it inside a black pot to keep the light off. I have changed to planting in pure sand and want to check
Root growth to prove the progress. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Project Office-Banana

if you do pure sand I'd suggest u need to fertilize with the water? or how do you plan to get your nana the right amount of food?

it tho sounds interesting

if i get the chance some day i will try an aquaponic banana. thats maybe interesting for you too since you plan to pot a banana in sand. ;)

You are right about the fertilizer. Sand is magic potion. Watch for a post from me soon as an example.

I've got to say is must not be so bad going to work if you get to share your work space with an office-mate like that.

Re: Project Office-Banana

there are many coworkers coming by to see the growth. Its fun :) P-Stem of the VC is ~1.30m

Re: Project Office-Banana

hmm due to its size i have to think about cuting it.. what do you think and where should i cut it in order to keep it alive?

Re: Project Office-Banana

Are you planning on planting it outside next spring?
If so, I would just take the chance and leave it the way it is, even though it hits the ceiling.
Nice job!

Re: Project Office-Banana

actually i cant plant it outside. ill post a pic tomorrow. i have to bent the leafes. and i guess the spear growing atm is the last one i can bent.

Re: Project Office-Banana

Leave it the way it is and see what happens.

Re: Project Office-Banana

over night growth ;) ok the only problems I see are some spidermites (not much harm to my big girl) and the small space to the ceiling. its aprox 1meter to 1,20. so for the next 2 or 3 leafes i can bent them to the right site but after that i think it would not work anymore..

i dont expact a flower right norw or in the next weeks. thats why i thought of cutting it.

Again, I would just leave it the way it is.
First, it is just the tip of the leaf that touches the ceiling, but there is plenty of space for the actual p-stem to grow.
Second, I am not that familiar with the VC but it is possible that an inflorescence has already formed inside the p-stem and cutting/shortening the plant will result in damage or loss of the inflorescence, subsequently of the entire plant except the pup on the side.
And there is always the option of moving and or a job change 😜
Just kidding.

haha I just love you :)

Okay just measured the P-Stem. Its 1.15m / 3.7ft. I don't know how tall it acutally could get.

Your point about the inflorescence has been taken. So I will let it grow. It should by now slow down the growth due to the loss of daylight and temperature. I hope it will flower here! Would be an attraction ;) *banana with dollar sign in eyes* haha

Re: Project Office-Banana

i have a similar issue
when i brought the plants in for the winter two of them had to be propped on an angle so that they would fit
but they try to right themselves.. also to aid the next leaf unfurling i have been rotating them
they dont necessarily chase the light per se... because i pointed them at the light and they still bend toward the ceiling
some of the ones that fit sitting flat are starting to hit the ceiling as well...
lots of work ahead of me to get them through this winter.....

so should i just keep doing what i am doing?
