make " corn dollies"? No one here does but since I had some packing material from a(European) member here I made a few and tossed them in the outdoor fire for luck and made a wish. Just figured I'd toss it out and see.

Already ripe or ripening.

Jack , they were an ancient custom from old agararian society. Corn which for some reason I believe wheat or barley was called then was made in to a crude human figure and tossed in to the fire for luck or whatever. Since I had a fire going outdoors and some material it popped in to my head and tied them up and.........in the fire.

No, we do this with salt. Take a little bit of salt and toss it over your arm behind you. That brings luck.

Haha, i have even better idea.
I ll toss few in sea tonight .
That might be better than burn them. We offen toss things (flowers, etc.,) in sea for sailors and fishermans health and things like that.

I like my rabbit's foot.... although some people argue that it doesn't bring any luck at all, including the rabbit . Back to salt!
BTW, since it houses the spirit of the corn (grain), it can also be plowed into the first furrow of the spring fields to release the spirit so it can help make good crops.
My great grandmother has a few that she made.... more for novelty, though. Awesome stuff!

Like Hungarian fleet. LOL. I hope you know what I'm getting at.
If not, sufficing to say, that our army has general, but Hungary is the only continental country that has admiral (sea general).

Fishermen and sailors here also have some superstions. In the old whaling days they wouldn't allow a red haired women onboard for example, though these days they probably beg for their company There's lots of historical (and sometimes hysterical) examples of this sort of thing.

Okay Bob , Bring on the pics !

BTW, MediaHound was talking about having contests for nanner bucks, anyway. How about a "Who can make-up the best TyTy Nursuree ad" contest, complete with ad photeos?
Well I'm Certain that's how TyTy would have spelled it !

That wouldn't be that difficult. OK, I'm going to excercise my abdominal muscles a little bit, so that I'm ready for the picture.

Wow! Jack's ready for action! Spent the last hour using "Paint" to make a cutout of Kate Moss & some nanners but couldn't save it as a jpg file . Time to get a better "Paint" program (albums won't upload bmp files).
Hey Jack! Did ya just want to catch her panties or ride the nanner boat right up to her port!?

BTW, decided to make it an ad for Musa HooNos Bananas & she'll be saying "They're sooooooo sweet" !!

I can imagine the situation even without the panties. It's hot in Makarska riviera ports these days.
If I were the sailor, I would turn into swimmer quickly and swim towards the beach girls.
