Default Raised bed project

Picked up a few of these borders to create a raised bed. This side of my yard stays a bit wet (clay). I'm running out of room so I need to get creative. Definitely dug out the grass (VERY thick grass) under what I have there now and will on the rest of it. I just wanted to get the orinoco from Valor X in the ground as it's wanting to roll. It's going to take a lot of soil but should really do the trick.

Nice! Those are pretty slick borders you've got there, its a good look. Did you make those or are they a commercial product?

Home Depot had them (online) and I ordered some 12" and some 6" versions. They're in 6' sections connected with some fairly heavy coated wire. I'm using 6" in some areas but on this spot it needs to come up pretty high. I my drive them down a little more when my body recovers from what I did yesterday.

Looks like a good start! I didn't bother to dig anything out of mine, but I did put a thick layer of newspapers down to act as a barrier, and went up the sides a bit too. I did get a few errant blades of grass poke up here and there, but for the most part, it kept everything at bay with almost zero effort or cost.

Definitely thought about that as there will be 8" of soil on top but I have a need for the sod so it will be used to fill in some crappy spots....what little grass I'm left with.

They darn sure are and I need 2 more sections of the 12 inches. I have a few more 6 inch ones but I'm in desperate need of the long ones.

They're eucalyptus which should last a little longer than yellow pine, but we shall see. I bet they go at least 3 seasons.

New growth eucalyptus has a little of the volatiles in it, but it grows so fast that the grain is too soft to make much of a difference. It does smell nice though. On a side note, has anyone ever gone through that eucalyptus forest on the way to Muir Woods? It smells amazing!

Anyway, if my beds don't last very long, I'll replace them with Trex. It'll cost more, but with lumber prices like they are at the moment, I don't think it will be too noticeable. We need to do something about all of this inflation!

I got the stuff but have been too busy with work and playing roadie for my daughter's gigs. I have high hopes of completing this weekend.

I saw a couple of YouTube vids of ukulele shredding.
You should get her to play in front of your bananas. They'll be 35 feet tall by the end of the season.

She's starting to make a name for herself; that's awesome!

So
Ha she will not play around the house so I'll have to rely on fertilizer 😀. And thanks she's become quite popular around Charleston, starting to do more events, parties, etc. Too. She really is making great money, fully paying for college as she goes. Let me know if you ever get here maybe catch a show.

OK I need more soil...a LOT more soil. This wasn't as easy as it looks, at least for my old self. I managed to get my praying hands down next to your orinoco. The pot was FULL of roots. Every one of my tissue cultures are busting. ZERO casualties. The patupi is already throwing what looks to be a pup.

Anyway here it is for now. I have work to do obviously.

I just picked up another 15 gallons of that "swamp muck" on the side of the road. Isn't there a place like that in your area?
