That is a nice guide, and really creative.
I think it would be much quick to get a 24 hour timer, and plug a water pump into it. Let timer turn your pump on and off as needed.

I like the creativity here! Lots of thought went into how you needed this to work for your needs, very cool!

Just because it is not a store brought solution does not make it jerry-rigged, and besides to be considered jerry-rigged I think it requites duct tape.

I'd think regular appliance timer would run for to long between setting with a lot less settings. Most timers (mechanical type) can only be set to run as short as 15 to 30 minutes of on time, couple times a day.

Dan & Tara - You are absolutely right. The 24 hour timers can not turn on and off as many times per day as you need, nor can they run for as short a time, just a few seconds each time. You do, however, need a 24 hr. timer to turn the short cycle timer on at daylight, and off at dusk, as you don't want to mist at night. In our situation, we are connected to the New York City water supply, and that is 80 lbs. of pressure, so we have no need for a pump, just need to turn the mist nozzles on and off.

Ok, I understand what your trying to do better now. I just thought you were doing something else when I seen you were misting from the top. I am use to misting for a few min a couple times a day on the roots only.

I have a friend that has one of these, I have not been to his warehouse but it is using the Nutra Mist to mist roots of Toms, Kayle, Bach Choi, Strawberry, and some other stuff. He sells me Toms really cheap and real nice and plump!

WF (can't see your actual name, anywhere) I guess I could have been a little more clear, about this. What we were doing there really doesn't apply to nanas. There we were rooting cuttings of various temperate (azaleas, boxwood, viburnum, etc., etc.) and tropical (mandevilla, allamanda, thunbergia, etc., etc.plants. These cuttings have leaves but, to start with, no roots, so they need the moisture to keep them from drying up, until they get roots, and the ability to take up water. Sorry about that.

I had not clue they were all cuttings, everything looks so nice and green. Do you by chance know how to take cuttings from angel trumpet? I just need to know if I cut Hard wood, of if I should just cut off one of the new green shoots and dip it in root hormon and watch it go.

You might be right Mike. My husband does all this home made stuff too and he thought I was using the phrase 'jerry-rigging' rather loosely ...... in fact I possibly used the wrong phrase ENTIRELY

Mike - When you mention Angel trumpets, I assume you mean Brugmansia. I have only grown these from seed, but I read that you can root them from semi ripe cuttings, under mist, (as shown,above) in summer.

Pete - Have done a few Arbs from cuttings but, again, mostly from seed. Granted, they start out much smaller, and it takes longer, but if you do them every year, the ones you did five years ago are pretty good size now, and the ones you did four years ago will be good for next year.
