Anyone else experiencing a drought?

This is supposed to be our rainy season; it is not. I've given up on my lawn which is fine because I'd already decided to replace it with mulch and more "don't need a lot of water plants" but this dryness is awful during the transition.

I was out shopping today 4.3 miles from my house when a rousing 1/2 hours downpour happened. My "Oh, I hope it's falling on my house" escaped from my lips. Which set off another 10 shoppers' thoughts. And comments about the situation. We're so very dry here. Watering hasn't helped. Any of us.

So sad.

What's the weather like where you are?

The same. Extremely dry. It hasn't rained more than 1/4" here in over a month. We normally get afternoon gulf moisture this time of year. Tomorrow there is a 60% chance so I'm hoping.

Though I was raised to live as if my life was on the edge always on a drought (1 minute showers, dishwater tossed on the luxury plants, sprinklers set so low that concrete was never wet, turn off the water once your toothbrush is wet and many little "no water waste things" I do naturally but can't recall) I feel for you in CA because the drought here is very real even if temporary---right now.

It's happening all over the world. We as a species have to do something to change our habits.

Sorry cannot post much.....locally we are under a "heat dome" which blocks all transmissions....:woohoonaner:
But on a serious note......bananas love the consistant average temp of 75 at the moment. In zone 5-7 this is the sweet spot for our plants....I wish it lasted longer.

Re: Anyone else experiencing a drought?

Back a little over a month ago we got two rain events, each over 7 inches in less than 36 hours, and about a week apart, then BAM! It has been quite dry here since. A tenth here, a tenth there... Grass is barely green and shriveled in most parts. As Kat said, it's supposed to be our 3 months rainy season.

Re: Anyone else experiencing a drought?

I went on a field trip to Largo today. I visited there specifically for an Amish store not owned by Amish; that was painfully obvious. I really miss trips to where cheese is cheese. Oh, well. Fortunately I did go shopping in Plant City; I found out where everyone goes to buy their produce for resale. 40lbs of plum tomatoes for $15 and a large rosemary plant for $2 made my day. Another stop for a couple of smaller herb pants at $1. A little market in St. Pete tempted me with black apricots, red pears and yellow pluots. Haven't been inside a Trader Joe's in 10 years so stopping there was a treat. Where I lived they were not allowed to sell alcohol so today I bought 2 bottles of 2 Buck Chuck. (Okay, they're $2.99 now but...) Visited an amazing indoor Farmers Market; came home with 20lbs of Brussels Sprouts for $8 along with some other goodies. Had a great Italian sub at a little Italian bakery; the bread was so great I purchased 2 small loaves for my Sicilian driver/friend. I had a wonderful outing especially since it rained off and on all day across FL.

Alas, it did not rain at my house...

Yes, we have had lots of rain and we are supposed to get more tomorrow. I hope it gets better for folks not having much luck.

Blame the government!
All these drought and flooding are from Weather modification!
Haarp is closing because the Navy has underwater antennas now.

Aliens just blew up the Space X rocket! OMG! Human greed is going to kill it all.

Wish we would dry up a little bit here, this part of Texas is saturated! Had sprinklers off for the last 30day. Would love to send some all of ya'alls way!!!

Happy growing,

Darla

Re: Anyone else experiencing a drought?

Moved to Tampa from California almost 3 years ago. I was never expecting to have a drought here too! I remember driving to work and passing the Mt. Diablo fire a couple years ago. It is so dry here that we had a local park lose 200 acres to fire on Saturday. Luckily there are 4 miles and an 8 lane highway in between the fire and us.

Our lawn has been dry and dead for a while now (luckily no HOA)

We're 8" down for the year. The 2.3 " rain last Thursday helped, but not enough.

We sure don't have that problem here... Floods everywhere!
