Default Cactus mix a little too hot

I have been using Kelloggs cactus mix for my bananas in the ground and in containers for a few years. Have not had any problem until now, some pups started looking bad right after being dug and planted and nothing would help so on a hunch I dumped the soil and buffered it with some turface and perlite and they were much happier after that.
