Can't get much better fertilizer than fish carcasses! :)

(my "Bass-O-Matic is an old food processor; save the fish carcasses to make chum blocks)
I sort through the freezer & sacrifice an "old" chum block or two in the bottom of the hole before planting anything that I want to really take good care of, add 6" of dirt so the roots don't get frostbite & drop the plant in the hole. :p

Cats aren't as big a problem as skunks & coons but a little chickenwire mat pinned down fixes that. ;)

It's a source of nitrogen (in a month or two) and phosphate (very slowly), but not much in the potash department.

whats u all's experience with fish emulsion/fertilizer?
ive used alaska brand..other brand that isnt hydrolyzed claiming
plants process it better..
??
now u all have me thinking i should get a bass o matic.. and process
fish from utah lake.. LOL :)
i know its getting the plant to process and take up the fertilizer so it can
utilize the particular nutrient..
? doesnt fulvic/humic acid assist in this some??

I have been burying fish parts and mussel shell in my yard for years. Seems to be good fertilizer.

i wont part with any trout i catch..LOL but carp for sure..
several yrs ago we had a really long dry summer..the river going thru
provo got really low.. i had idea of raking up the algae from river and composting it.. contacted forest service responsible..and did just that
racked up on shore..let dry couple days..then hauled it home to compost..
it sure stank till i got it in compost..but cooked down just fine..
anyone else try this..??
i would think near the ocean could be easy access to seaweed..except
how about the salt content???

I'm all for using kelp extract but the quoted advertisement for PlanTea kelp bags is full of misinformation.

The main benefit of seaweed is the plant hormones it contains. When plants uptake these, it causes them to do more of what they are currently doing. If the plant has sufficient nutrients in the soil (plants feed on inorganic minerals), then the plant does a prolific job in its current growth mode. If there are not sufficient nutrients, then the plant can suffer from exhaustion.

I have a beach combing book that says washed up jellyfish make really good fertilizer. Lately our beaches have been loaded with jellyfish and jelly bits so I might collect some tomorrow.

I'm a wee bit disappointed. We managed to find one jelly before a large amount of dogs landed on the sand. (My son is scared of dogs.) We will going back out next weekend so hopefully we'll have a load.

On the plus side I've encouraged my Dad to teach my son how to fish :)
