another fertilizer question

hello everyone,, long story short: I have 13-13-13 and want to supplement the potassium, (or should I ?),, got some straight pot ash from the fertilizer co.

how much should I add? say if I use 1 cup of 13-13-13 , should I add 1 cup of pot ash? . or 1/2 cup? or what would be a good equation?

using it on in ground plants

Thanks in advance for any advice

Re: another fertilizer question

How much nitrogen and Potassium are you trying to apply with each fertilizer application? .... Or How much nitrogen & potassium do you want to apply in one growing season and how many applications will be applied?

Re: another fertilizer question

as much and as often as I can without burning them up,, not looking for fruit, just want them to get as big as possible.

have been giving them about a half a pound of 13-13-13 per plant about every month,,

I have read that they like more potassium then the rest,, just thought I would supplement it a little.

sorry if I sound dumb , just don't know much about fertilizer. I do know the smaller plants will take less than the big ones, ( I guess)

Then you need to go to our WiKi and read about fertilizer. Info:Fertilizer - Bananas Wiki

Bananas need about 1 lb of nitrogen and 1.5 lbs of potassium per year (aka: growing season) ... So using NPK of 13-13-13, you would need give 7.5 to 8 lbs of 13-13-13 for 1 lb of nitrogen and 1 lb of potassium. ... You then need to supplement 1/2 lb of potassium with MOP (0-0-50) or SOP (0-0-60). 1/2 lb /.5 = 1 lb of MOP or a little less of the SOP.

Divide this weight by the number of feeding you plan on giving the plant during the growing season. Some members here give the plants extra ....

The math is easy. It was the unknowns of your question that made the answer difficult.

We use a general triple 16 to 19 for the commercial landscape banana plants at the recommended application rate for landscape plants/shrubs. Some gardeners will use additional 46-0-0 for an additional boost primarily in the spring. For our zone this works out well. No added cost of micros are used. Plants are treated as ornamental perennials.

You can damage a plant and soil structure without any immediate visual effects by pushing fertilization. Less is more. Richly amending the soil around plant helps too.

Good luck growing this year...should be a banner year with all the rain.:)

Re: another fertilizer question

Preferences are subjective.......
You are in the good zone.......just have to push very early spring.:woohoonaner:
Try it for two or three years and get an indication how your plants respond to the fertilizer push.
Then tailor your regimen

You will develop a predictable result over the early seasons..
