![]() I am certainly no expert, but my general default position is if I am in doubt, I leave it alone.
Are you in a hurry to propagate it? If not and If it were me on that plant, short of pulling the plant, washing off some medium and inspecting the roots visually, I would probably wait until it gets a bit bigger just to ensure it has produced enough of its own roots on its developing corm to take hold. But that is just me, and again, I am not the expert around here.

i am in florida, so if i were to be thinking to remove the pup i would already have it inground and would wait till the p-stem height was easily 4 ft. or better. but would have till september to do it.

![]() I am also not an expert but I try to balance time left in season and size of pup. If it's close to end of season I usually leave them until next year so the mother plant has plenty of time to recover. I've seen some mention about 8 weeks of recovery time so I use that as a general rule. Since they grow most vigorously when they are outside during peak temps. In my area I usually bring my pots in around the end of October so end of August is my cut off time. As far as size I've removed several that size myself from my potted bananas but the longer you can wait the better in my opinion.

![]() It is difficult to provide an exact answer without knowing the exact species of plant, as the growth rate and size of the plant will vary depending on the species. However, as a general rule of thumb, you should remove the pup when it has reached approximately one-third of the size of its parent plant. That way, you can ensure that the pup has enough room to grow and flourish in its new pot. Additionally, make sure to bring the plant indoors in October to protect it from the cold winter weather in Maryland.

![]() I have removed pups of all sizes and all my stuff is in the ground. For a pot I would just remove the whole plant and use your hand to remove dirt where the pup is. You could use the hose to spray dirt away to see how many roots the pup has and if you removed it. Would there be enough corm from the mother for the pup since smaller.

![]() Im not a expert, but my rule of thumb is that I can remove pups once they are atleast 2Ft tall(the out of soil part), Im new working with bananas but every banana that I remove and transplant that it less then 2ft struggles and in most cases dies.
I also cut all the leaves and make a 45 degree angle cut at the top of the plant, for me this is the fastes way its start growing again.

![]() The plant itself is so small and the pup is so close to pstem. This tells me the corm is really small too. I’d just snip off the pup and discard it to allow the corm to put more energy into the main plant. Once it gets
More developed you’ll get more pups and you can re plant them. I’ve repotted pups that size before and honestly I find the longer you wait the harder it is to separate them because their roots don’t want to let go. Good luck |
