Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)
[IMG][/IMG]
My Ice Cream banana that suddenly outgrew the pot and then some... it was about large enough to look "okay" in a 1 gallon pot about 3-4 weeks ago... now it's huge. It also started to lean(see above pic). Today, it's in a 24" pot! Should be happy now. I mixed some of the banana fertilizer in the bottom half of the pot dirt, so when the roots reach it, they'll get a nice dose. [IMG][/IMG] Much bigger pot! No idea how I'll ever move it! |

Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)
~ Repotted my SDC from its 16 gallon to a 21 gallon wine container liner. It was root bound more that I thought so it will like the extra growing room. This is the biggest pot that I will be able to provide if I am to keep bringing it in for the winter as my walk in closet door is only 26" and a wider pot will not fit. If it can't bloom in this pot then no bananas for me. Unless I can get a banana patch growing outside that I plan to I start this spring and it grows to size enough to bloom.
~ I also removed 3 pups as I transplanted and took one of the pups to my Mom. I have a few other local friends that once said they would like starts too. ~ For more than these pictures of the whole process check out my Banana blog. Root bound from the 16 gallon pot. I separated and repotted 3 sword pups. My SDC is now repotted in new 21 gallon wine container liner and 3 of its pups in pots ready for new homes. ~ For more than these pictures of the whole process check out my Banana blog. Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)
I've had it in a spot for 2 years where it would get Marasmiellus stem rot so the ps-stems would die. Moved a keiki to a new spot last year and it's very happy and not having the rot problems. The ones in the original spot are also doing better. I agree, really beautiful. Hopefully will get to taste it this year.

Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)
It would probably survive, based on ones growing in a neighbor's yard, but we get too cool in winter for it to really be happy and thrive.

Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)
I received 4 nice pups in a trade with another member. These pots are only semi-temporary as I plan to plant 2 or 3 of them in the Spring. The Dwarf Red will be staying in the pot most likely, and just get upgraded as needed. This was actually last night, but what's 16 hours or so?
From L-R: Cali Gold, Raja Puri, Dwarf Red, Dwarf Namwah.
