Cin Are you putting all the dwarf reds on heat mats and grow lights, in winter months, what's the reason behind Thai black upside down in you gallery I'm very impressed with your whole set up, considering that like myself you don't have round a year climate for bananas. |

First ....coco coir... I got some after your last post. I will try it with some stuff I have going on...Thanks for the Push. ![]() Dwarf reds are a sprawling beast I will put a small one under cfls. Even the small ones are huge 3x3x3 and up. Big footprint for lighting. The rest will go into the Jungle dungeon with low 6500k light and 65-+ TEMPS or less. Once the nighttime temps dip to 60-50F the leaves will turn yellow...fast I finished my hydroponic endeavor and decided to do a upside down grow. I had been wanting to do one for along time with a variegated plant but I did not have one small enough to have fun with. Sorry, I misplaced the photo IT IS NOT A THAI BLACK....but a disposable Orinoco. My Thai black pics did not load where they were supposed to and I had not picked it up I will fix that soon. . ![]() Upside down by Hostafarian, on Flickr. . Hydroponic growing is fun but the return is not worth the few years of cost. There are other plants which are a better grow which have a better return on investment. Thanks fo checking out my plant stuff ....like you, I love growing stuff. |

I just potted these 3 pups earlier this week. Patupi, Veinte cohol, and Dwarf Chamaluco pups. I know it is late in the season and this is probably the last week of warm weather in PA. I hope to keep these small plants growing over winter and store their parent plants in a dormant state.
We'll see how it goes! Erik G Pennsylvania |

Erik, Have you found your Patupi a good source for pups? I think it is one of those plants that takes a few seasons before it will flower in our zone. The plant has great foliage though. I still have to rearrange some of my plants also ![]() Last edited by cincinnana : 09-09-2018 at 06:32 AM. |

Hi Mike,
Yes, the patupi is very good at pupping. It usually throws several pups right before the main plant dies back! This year I had my plant get 2' tall before that happened. I think it got too much water - even growing in a fabric pot! I'm not sure what the secret sauce is to get this plant to grow properly. I am improving my methods since the mean time between die backs is getting longer. This last one lived 8 months! I will keep trying since the foliage is very pretty but I don't have high hopes. How large is your patupi? I think you had it for 2 or 3 years now... Do you think it will flower next year?

I would not give up on it......I think this plant is one of those that will take a few short cycles like 3-6 of them to flower.
It is a dud because the only thing that got cycled was our money ![]() |

It was being stretched a bit
![]() If it were one of those thin commercial pots it definitely would have. I did repot and split the two plants in similar sized containers Last edited by cincinnana : 10-04-2018 at 08:44 AM. |
