Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)
Thanks ... I know this thread is about 'potted' bananas. I put those two in the ground because I don't have room inside. I plan to move them next spring. Or I may not and just get more from the nursery.
I'm building a small greenhouse to over winter smaller potted nanas and to grow TC's into 4" & 6" pots. |

Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)
I received 7 banana plants from FloridaHill Nursery today and re-potted to 6" pots. I'll have to keep these inside until I can get a small green house built.

Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)
I rescued this Zebrina from the doldrums of leftover pickings at the garden center. And then I received these two pups from pukpukz. A Gros Michel and Dwarf Red. |

Two dwarf Namwah from Wellspring Gardens (Ebay) received on 4/23/18:
On the same day, I repotted to the same kind of 4" pots shown in the background. Currently, both plants are doing well. |

I really like this plants foliage and compactness. I had the original plant a few seasons and this year the original plant pushed two January leaves then rotted and rewarded me with those pups. Since zone 6 growing season is coming to an end(60 more days) this is my time to freshen up and split some of my plants so they will go indoors for the winter with some established root structure. I did some Bordelons while I was at it. Both plants when small do well under grow lights too. |

Bordelons are looking great, never realised you had super dwarf Cavendish. You must be looking forward for one to friut. Ae Ae is looking in pristine condition as ever. I have been using using coco coir mixed with perlite this year on some of my bananas , rather than miracle grow compost mixed with perlite for growing medium, plants are doing great, looks great in pots aswell , don't know if you have ever tried it. |

No such luck for me my short growing season does not allow this plant to flower yet. I have had one in a 5gal hydro bucket for a few years now.....just for fun.I got a few decent pups off it. Quote:
I do not use it.....yet. LOL I have fellow gardeners that use it exclusively and of course their stuff looks amazing. Many of the better(more expensive) commercial/retail soilless mix's have a coir base. The hydroponic store which sells coir is over the river and through the woods in the state of Kentucky which is too far of a drive The closer big box stores sell the bales of peatmoss at a reasonable cost. Rice hulls....cannot get those either and I am in a farm/horse/animal area. I think hulls are regional. You can buy them online though. |
