Truly Tiny
OK call me foolish, but I bought a Truly Tiny from ebay. Am I correct in assuming that it's a cavendish variety. Can I expect fruit, albeit tiny fruit? Does anyone have any experience?

Re: Truly Tiny
So far my experience with truly tiny... is that it truly sucks. They don't seem to be very easy to overwinter, and grow so slow...maybe others have had better results. I have one now that I can't seem to kill but it doesn't grow either. It's been stalled at 2 inches tall since January. Of course I haven't tried too hard either.

Re: Truly Tiny
I have one that I got from Agri Starts. Here's a pic of it today.
![]() Seems to be doing OK so far. (edit- you can see a larger image of this pic in my gallery.) |

Re: Truly Tiny
I got mine on a trade in '06 when it was 1 - 1 1/2" high. Don't know if it was tc or a pup. It grew REAL slow till last year & is now taking off. 15 inches high & P stem is 7 1/2 ". Someone said they get to be 2-3 ft tall...maybe it'll get there in another 3 years? I'm hoping for at least a pup this year.

Re: Truly Tiny
I did the same thing, from Wellspring. They said it shipped yesterday. I'm looking forward to my banana, but being in the completely wrong zone, I don't expect very much. It will just be nice to have a small banana tree in my kitchen (SE Window), with the hope of maybe eventually having fruit.
From everything I've read, it's supposed to be edible fruit, but I can't get any sources to agree on the size. Some say tiny. Others say medium. |

Re: Truly Tiny
I'm glad you posted the pic Scot. The girl I got mine from was MOSTLY sure it was T Tiny but a chance it might be Lil Prince. Yours looks like mine with the splotches. How old is yours?

Re: Truly Tiny
I have the Truly Tiny in a Jack Pot that I keep out doors. It tops out at 30 inches and has been painfully slow growing.
The Logees Dwarf lady Finger seems the same way. They both get plenty of nutrients and sun. Every other Banana in my yard is growing great so it could be the variety; No fruit yet. |
Re: Truly Tiny
Wow, 30 inches! How old is it? Any pups?
|
Re: Truly Tiny
The Truly Tiny is a year or two old. I just posted it in my gallery.
If I could figure out how to put it in this tread I would. |
Re: Truly Tiny
Why is mine so small being over 3yrs old???:(

Re: Truly Tiny
Slow growing? Oh, well that\'s just disappointing, then! I always enjoyed the fast growth of bananas....it makes them much more charismatic plants. If they grew slow, I\'d just be kinda sad about it. They do look like nice plants though.

Re: Truly Tiny
Patty, just the zone may be the difference, as for pups there are two plants in the jack pot. I haven\'t seen any others yet. I may separate them and see what happens. I was at a persons house two years ago that had some small bananas, similar to the truly tiny with fruit on it. Lets see if my photo shows up.

Re: Truly Tiny
OK, this is weird. See if you can tell what these are...hint - one is a 3 yr old Truly Tiny.
They look identical to me ![]() Closer ![]() Another hint...the other is a less than 1 yr pup. Makes me wonder how some ppl here can identify the plants from pics! I potted up my TT just a few months ago & today checked the roots. It was rootbound so is now in a much bigger pot. It should really take off now. |
Re: Truly Tiny
OK, so with all those 100's of wrong guesses, I'll just tell you that the one on right is a Dbl Mahoi. Neither of these had any red splotches before this summer.
