Reflective Mylar

I was wondering if anyone has used this for your indoor growing and how well did it work for you? :^)

Re: Reflective Mylar

I have used it before..helps to stop wasted light..reflects light back onto plants,to give a more uniform light distribution..cheap alternative is dull side out tinfoil...but mylar is far better

Re: Reflective Mylar

I use it on two setups of mine for fern propagation.
Spray mounted to the bottom of a coffetable with 12x100 watt daylights .
I could post pics if you like....

I also use a mirror in another fern/ bananna area.

And last but not least the local hydro store Worms Way has a working display of a grow tent........which is kinda pricey.

Walmart and some sporting goods stores sell it as a survival blanket for cheap.

Re: Reflective Mylar

I ordered a 4-pack of emergency blankets off of amazon for 5 bucks or so. Heck of a lot cheaper than trying to buy a whole roll if you want to experiment.

Spent the first half of the winter without, have had it hanging up on the walls for the last month or so. There is a very definite increase in the reflected light that the plants are able to utilize. Across the board be they banana, palm, cycad, aloe or mangrove trees; everything has showed noticable improvement in just the last month.

I will be ordering another pack of blankets to fully enclose my grow area in the basement before everything comes inside again this fall.

Painting your walls with flat white paint is almost as good as far as reflectivity you will gain about 10 % with mylar. You will gain the most by bringing your light source closer...

Yea baby! That reflective mylar is great stuff. It reflects light back on the plant brightens up any available light and helps the Photosynthesis. I see white paint is good also! Hmmmm My wife might shoot me if I painted a wall white.. So I survive because of MYLAR

Fungas gnats and ferns......
More ferns on top.......of the table.
Setup is in front of a south double hung window:)
Other setup is almost the same in another south facing window.

I have four bananas under lights.....

I have about 20 million ferns under lights.....just waiting , while harboring the worlds largest colony of working fungus gnats.:woohoonaner:

Mixing neem meal in your soil mix will help control fungus gnats, or a drench .05% neem oil, about 1 tsp per qt...Just make sure its cold pressed neem before they remove the azadraction . It will take a while for the gnats to cycle as it prevents them from moulting....

Awesome recipe for those buggers....I will try that, I have neem oil .....but the smell. I will investigate neem meal to see if my other plants will tolerate it.

I actually ended up using BT(ground up mosquito dunks) and Bayer Complete(Imidacloprid) to ruin their day.

I have found that gnats love The TAT brand fly paper. I found this out by accident when I set them out for house flies. I cut one up into sections, put a piece at the base of each plant and it rid my houseplants of gnats virtually over night. There where thousands of them stuck to it. I couldn't even see the paper any more. I tried a generic brand and it was less effective. Must be the scent they use.

I actually was going to use those but I used yellow post it notes smeared with corn syrup instead to catch the flying adults. That seemed to work well.
However next year I will have some Tat strips in the arsenal to hang from the ceiling.:)
My indoor grow buddies(cannibis) use the tape to stop contamination from rouge insects.
