Re: Raja Puri Flowering 8B
Great photos!
Can you provide a little back story and stats for the plant? When was it originally planted? How tall at fruiting? Did you cut it back for winter, etc. I added two RP’s from two different sources this year so very interested in your plant’s history. Thanks! |

Re: Raja Puri Flowering 8B
Purchased the plant from forum member Mark Dragt back in June 2018 as a corm... The plant has grown tremendously since then...It handled the cold great with some dieback on new cigar growth, and the edges of mature leaves...Its 7ft tall, gets fertilized 6 times a year , and flower appeared 2 months after harvesting some pups from her(sent her into a small growth spurt)

Re: Raja Puri Flowering 8B
Our house is in 8B also (Central Texas). And my Raja Puri is blooming also. Mine is in the ground on the S. side of the house. I know that it will need winter protection in order to have hopes of actually getting to eat the bananas. I'm thinking hoops out of PVC pipe covered with plastic with an electric heater. And assuming that it will cool off considerably this winter, that will probably mean that it will take longer to mature than what the charts say. But I'm an optimist! I lost a Dw. Green bunch recently. It just snapped off! I have one small Dw. Orinoco bunch that is maturing and expect a larger one to form soon. We have another location near the coast (9B). I got to harvest an Iholena Tigua bunch there. It was very sweet with an orange flesh. Best bananas I ever ate!

Re: Raja Puri Flowering 8B
Update...Plants now Exactly 30 days into flowers from pushing its flag...My question is Should I remove the flower and What I believe are male flowers/bananas? By doing this Will it help them fill in faster? I figure its putting its energy into producing more inedible hands, instead of using it on the good edible hands...Thoughts????

Re: Raja Puri Flowering 8B
I was told to cut mine off of my Orinoco, which I did, and to spray with potassium nitrate (aka stump remover) at 82 grams per gallon of water, every four to five days.
I have been doing this and it seems to have helped a lot, but this is my first fruit also,, so I really don't know,, may wait for someone else to give advice also may be different, on a different variety |

Re: Raja Puri Flowering 8B
Yes!.....Cut the flower bud off!....Cut it on the second row of male flowers!.....Prune those male flowers!....Spray or feed the plant with some Potash!.....That will help with the fill-in process of the Nana fruits!...
Hopefully it helps!....
