Pots indoors for winter?
I'm about to jump elbows deep into this. Trying to find out as much as I can ahead of time.
Once the potted plant comes indoors for winter(northeast) Do I cut the leaves or do I have to dedicate a whole room for these really long leaves, or are they not as long as I think they will be |

Re: Pots indoors for winter?
I would leave them on. Some things to know after bringing them in is don't over water that's very important and the easiest way to kill it indoors.let it get dry before watering again and don't water it until the water runs out the bottom.Watch for mites they love the dry indoor heat. Wiping leaves with soapy water helps especially on the underside of the leaves and the midrib. Place them next to a sunny window. They really won't grow to much inside unless you have a lot of light so all your doing is maintaining them until next spring.
What variety are you growing?

Re: Pots indoors for winter?
Wing..
Have you checked out any vids on youtube about growing bananas indoors under grow lights yet? There are a lot of choices to choose from just pick one that fits your budget. Most of them are pretty accurate When plants are smallish they are easy to manage. I cut my leaves in half to make them fit the space. Last edited by cincinnana : 09-12-2016 at 03:24 AM. |

Re: Pots indoors for winter?
hello every one, my first post,
I had five pups that I planted in pots this spring out side, they grew very well,, watered the crap out of them, I brought them inside for the winter,, keep them in a sunny part of the dining room and they are still growing very well I still water them about every two days. here is my question, water is weeping out of the leaves,. actually dripping off of the edges of the leaves, and is puddled in the very center where the newest leaf is coming out of the top.. I guess this is good? havn't seen anyone mention this before |

Your plants will drip heavily after watering and even out (lessen) after a few days. Cut the watering back and the dripping will slow down to a trickle or even stop. For me after I water and walk through the Jungle my shoulders get wet Bananas are heavy drippers indoors. And it will stain. Hope this helps. |

Re: Pots indoors for winter?
Thank You for the reply, I figured it was normal, just never seen anything said about it
If I let them go for four days without watering they start to droop. I have heard that when trimming leaves off, the moisture that comes out of them will stain, so I figured that this will as well, I have plastic down under all of them,, Don't want to stain the wifes carpet!!! |

cincinnana is correct I often cut leaves in half in the greenhouse and the banana pits if I need the room dosent seem to do them any harm but if thier small enough I would leave them whole rember they will grow very slow over the winter in side |
