Potassium deficiency

Hey,
I obtained a dwarf cavendish banana plant from one of my teachers and it was in good health. I fertilized it with fish fert 5-1-1. I read that it needed more potassium and phosphorus but thought it would be good as the fertilizer was all I had. A couple days later I noticed the tips of two leaves browning and curling in with yellow around the browning. I read up and was told it was potassium deficiency and I applied wood ash that I got from my fireplace and sprinkled a little in the pot. I don’t know if that will help much but do you have any advice? I didn’t think about this until after I researched, but I cut the browning tips off and don’t know if that will prevent it from spreading more. Here is a picture at the bottom(after the cutting)

Also, I need fertilizer for my banana and read a 20-10-20 mix for a growing banana (i read somewhere) are there any home remedies to make good fertilizer for a young lil plant?

Thanks in advance for your help! Have a great day!

Re: Potassium deficiency

Please post a picture of the banana plant. How long have you had the plant? For young plants, potassium is not a big requirement. But your description of the leaf browning/yellowing is also an indication of over watering which is a problem of 'potted' banana plants.

For more info on fertilizer, read the forum WIKI: Info:Fertilizer - Bananas Wiki

looks like your starting a forest. nice looking plants. watch out for to much love. what area are you located, depending on temperature bananas like it better outside. watering indoors can be rather ticklish, especially when they are that young. :2738: what else are you growing?

Haha I’m located in northen Illinois, so putting them outside probably isn’t the best idea. My room temp with my plants is about 76 degrees farenheught due to all the lights and heating elements for my animals too lol... I found a 12 inch pot and took the banana out of his 6” pot and he was rootbound and also water logged so it seems over watering may be the issue. Im letting the root ball dry out a little bit before I transplant and hopefully that will help :)... oh yeah, im also growing cinnamomum zeylanicum, coffee arabica, some sort of mango and lemon tree along with a few other plants like pothos
