Default My tree has white roots near the top of the soil

What does this mean? Is it root bound, Did I not plant it deep enough?

It's hard to answer without a picture or two.

I thought it might be root bound so I just repotted it. It was basically like a tree when the roots grow above ground.

Bananas are very shallowly rooted. Yours are probably fine. Put some compost on top of the roots.

Move the bark mulch around the top of my plant and I find surface roots too. Like said shallow rooted and fine. When you pulled it out you should have been able to see if it was root bound.

I pulled back my Pine straw mulch and saw roots right on top too! This plant was planted in a hole 4' wide and 18" deep filled with high quality bulk nursery planting mix. I figure that it is happy and it looks great. I will just add compost to the top, remulch and hopefully it will grow more top roots. More roots better plant!

Kentucky Bourbon - It may not solve the problem but it helps to make it tolerable!
