Large containers with no drainage holes
 

I purchased a few large containers that were made from resin/plastic and have no holes and the pots themselves seem more like double walled plastic so if I were to drill holes in the bottom the water would likely sit between the 2 layers of plastic and cause a mold problem. Anyone know why 1) they don't provide drainage holes, and 2) why these are double walled?

That is actually caller a planter by the manufacturer. ... Plants have different water drainage needs. Most all need to drain. Put the plant into a pot that meets the plant's drain needs. Then set the potted plant into the planter. This is how to have decorative planters and be able to use the cheap nursery pot that the plants came in; or not getting your hands dirty by having to repot new plants. ... In the case of potted bananas, place bricks (something) in the bottom of the planter to raise the pot drainage hole above the water line. ...It's easy when used correctly.

Yes ... You can also set a stepped structure inside for a tiered effect with flowers. ... the excess water that collects in the bottom should evaporate raising the humidity for the plant.

Many homemakers do not care for their plants and simple buy new plants each spring. And, Decorators need a Fast way to display plants at social functions. Then return or sale the plants later.

That sucks. I bought these to up pot my bananas which are in 3 to 7 gallon pots. Nobody sells larger nursery pots like 15-30 gallon which is basically what I bought these planters for. I checked craigslist and the largest I see are 3 gallons.

Just do like we do in Texas! Take a drill and make some holes! Just don’t get carried away like I do! Haha.

I have used the “rope handled” big totes. They are at Walmart for $10. In the tote/bin isles. They also have the same without the ropes at feed stores. These are made much better and are actually used minerals for cows. After it’s empty you bring it back and get a small deposit back when buying the next one. Sometimes the feed stores have them and will sell them for $5-$10. They work great and are made to be in the sun! Trouble is finding them!

Go to a regular nursery/landscaper. They have and use large pots (25 to 100 gal plus). I sure they will be glad to sell you a few. May be give give you some used ones. I picked some up at a local dumpster. The nursery was throwing them away after landscaping/planting for their customers.

Otherwise, the large pots are available from the manufactures.

Drill four or five 1/2” holes and lay off the water for a couple weeks.

Yep..
I put nursery containers in decorative plastic or clay pots. They hide them pretty well

For the size hole you will be needing use a wood spade bit because the are large.1/2 inch and up.

Walmart sells tubs for under 10.00 and in different colors with handles

These are the size containers you will be looking at for your plants if you plan to keep the banana in a container
The blue tub is a 24 gal size for reference.
Click on the photo to see other container sizes which might fit your needs,it could be a start.

Once your plants get bigger you will be putting them in the ground in Florida.

use your google to find other suppliers. I have bought from Green House Mega Store.

I do this. I also use pallets. Pallets are either pressure treated or made of cypress. They will last a long time. They won't look pretty. Whatever fits one's needs.:bananas_b

These are the ones I use, though when I got them, they were on sale for under $3 each. I just drilled some holes in the bottom and put them in a large plant saucer, my plants have been growing pretty well for the last few months indoors.
