Oh yes I have koi- subunkins-goldfish-mosquito fish and about 100 baby koi spawned this year. The babies might not all make it. I am in Missouri zone 6. I have 10 ponds-4 kiddy pools-6 cow tanks- and about 15 tubs. I have multiple bananas some are repeats. I have bananas growing in water like this one.

Nice... need any frogs?

We use kiddie pools for growing our potted veggies in, keeps down the irrigation cost.

Yep, we got some bunkies too - big fun ... but just the one pond - an old concrete thing I found buried.
Apparently a previous owner of the house built it, then filled it in with dirt!! And I recycled it! Ponds are great fun!

Oh, its a quarter circle - 16 foot by 16 foot but just 1 foot deep ... too shallow for fun fish like koi,
but the goldfish and shebunkins have a blast in it. Tadpoles too, when I can get them.

Anyway, I found it in 2001 when I went to plant some veggies - hit concrete and found a shallow concrete pool kind of thing.
I took all the dirt I dug out of the pond and made a berm along side it - that has become a stone-lined creek , and last year I put a shallow basin in at the head of it for marshy plants ... Had to read up and figure out about pond pumps and such ...

So - I have a pump in the big pond that pumps through a bamboo "pipe" into the basin, it overflows and runs down the creek and spills into the big pond. About half the pump goes through that, the other half gets fed into the waterfall under the gargoyle. We wind up with 3 different waterfalls splashing - quite a nice varied sound. The birds and critters get a creek to splash and bath in, or drink from, the fish get the main pond, and its just a wonderful sound year round ... (I do shut off the creek in winter as it freezes up ... I change the hoses around so the main pond just recirculates and doesn't).

Your ponds are great! I wish I had one. Now I only have lotuses and water lilies in pots and keep small fishes in them, frogs and toads always come to lay eggs. Nice to watch them grow.

Nice pics! I didnt have any banana plants in the ground until this summer. I am very happy that they are out of their pots though because most (with the exception of my Basjoo, or as l like to call them, the "sit there and do nothing banana") they are all growing much faster than in pots and the best part is that I dont have to water too often either! I still have my SDC in a pot though, and its doing great!

Of course, there is always this aspect of the DC area pond scene ... (from the Dec 2009 blizzard).
Fortunately, the goldfish don't mind too much - I've seen them in frozen in ice and they thaw okay once it warms up
- but we dig up the elephant ear bulbs and we do take the gargoyle statue in each winter ...

Anyway, you can see the upper and lower pond areas better without all the plants!
The creek between them isn't running when its cold, and its full of snow in this shot.

The backyard is too shady for the banana plants - they are in pots out front.
We have 16 mature trees over 80 foot tall on our little 1/4 acre here in Fairfax city.

And to help with this heat spell today, here is another from our back yard - some cardinals feeding in the snow on Feb 6, 2010 - No 'naners for them!
(found a better version of the Cardinals picture and replaced it Sun July 31st - Enjoy!)
