Hello all,
I am a banana newbie and am wanting to try a banana plant in zone 8a. The coldest it has gotten is 11F but we have been able to keep an avocado plant alive by putting it in a plastic dome during the coldest months. I was thinking I would start out in a container and would like to pick a short variety so that I could cover it to protect from frost. I am torn between a Raja Puri and a Pineapple Banana plant (said to be a variety from a Raja Puri but shorter in height). I was also thinking about Senorita but cannot find one. Anyone here tried a Raja Puri, Pineapple and a Senorita banana and have any input? I don't mind tangy, but how tangy is a Pineapple Banana? Thanks in advance for any guidance and/or experience you can share. Sarah |

I am in 8 a zone also. Been growing musa basjoo for years. Very cold hardy but no edible fruit. Trying 5 new ones this spring. Going all out on my banana hobby this year. I haven’t come across those varieties you mentioned as of now. I am looking for larger plants to grow outside year round.
