Growing Burmese Blue Bananas in a pot

1 Attachment(s)
HI
I have repotted my Burmese Blue Bananas plant in a bigger pot.
During the winter months it sits in front of a bay windows in my dining room as shown in the picture(the mess is from moving things around while I pull up the old carpet)......
Can be seen in the photo gallery...
This is the only light it gets is sun light and maybe light from the hanging dining room light.
And if I can get the plant and pot(HA) outside during the warmer months it get more sun.
So you can grow nice big plants with only using natural, sun, window light.
Can be done...
Now to get it to bloom and to get fruit that would be neven greater.

Thanks
Christina

Very nice! I grew naners in my south-facing window of my room for years when I was living back home in Iowa (I'm from Mount Vernon, IA). They actually do pretty well....especially if you're far enough north that the sun shines in better in the winter. Now that I'm in Missouri, I've definitely noticed the difference in the angle of the sun year round....I'm surprised it's that noticeably different only 5 hours south of my home.

Thanks for sharing the pics/story!

Hope all is well in Iowa...I'll be back in three years!!

What was your source of this plant? 'Burmese Blue' is indeed a subspecies of Musa itinerans, but from what I gather, the real 'Burmese Blue' isn't available in the trade. I thought I'd bought one of these once as well about 3 yrs. ago. Turned out to be M. itinerans ssp. itinerans.

Well,

Whatever the heck it is...I have it labeled as Burmese Blue, LOL!!

It is a beautiful plant...we will see what happens...

I also have banana tree in a pot.

In winter times the sun rases from front an sets in the back, so I
drag my tree all the way from my living room bow window in to my kitchen.

Annoying, but at list tree lives. :birthdaynana:

Wow..that plant looks so small until you click on the pic..nice job...you would easily get ornatas (I know..fruit..fruit) to bloom in a pot like that.

I think the true BB gets rather large, so I wouldn't doubt that it would be tough to fruit in a pot. I was hoping that BigDog would check this thread out and give us his opinion on your plant. I'm pretty sure that I've read a post either by him or Gabe stating that the true BB isn't readily available here.

Re: Growing Burmese Blue Bananas in a pot

Has anyone ever seen BB fruit? If so I am sure it does not look anything like the famous single pic that is so well circulated on the internet.

Re: Growing Burmese Blue Bananas in a pot

I was helping Scot ship all those plants and he had many M. itinerans ssp. itinerans. I'm not saying it is but it looks suspiciously like the plants i was handling with its skinny stems and long thin elegant leafs even the color is similar

I was under the impression the BB has a waxy bloom on its stems can any one confirm that
