A tiny little Gros Michel and a bigger Blue Java. They just came in today, and I'm no banana expert, but I'm a tad worried about the condition they arrived in? What do you guys think?

(they're in my mini green house, e.g. plant lights wrapped in clear plastic sheets with a humidifier shoved in there for good measure. The instructions say not to mist them, but to water them?)

Oh phew, I wasn't sure if the leaves were wilting or just bent from shipping.

The plants look good. But I disagree about misting especially nana potted plants inside. Air conditioned air inside has low humidity and will dry the plant. Inside the plant will use very little water so keep the moist and allow the soil the dry out before watering. Misting 2 Xs a day is good.



I would repot to 8" pots with table spoon of fertilize for the next 3 months. Use a very fast draining potting soil.

My house isn't air conditioned and the bananas have a humidifier inside a tiny greenhouse with them so they should have plenty of humidity. (Too much even. I may need to get a humidity gauge to make sure I don't start some kind of horrifying mold problem).

The instructions say to wait for the root to poke through the bottom before repotting. I assume they're afraid I'm going to shock my plant if I transplant it immediately after arrival. But seeing such big plants in such tiny pots IS kind of messing with me.

Should I be worried about over fertilizing? I have rabbit poop for days (cold compost) and was going to mix it with normal potting soil.

Congrats. On your new babies. Trust me they look fine. You need to report in to a little bigger pots and make sure they drain well. Misting is personal preference, its. Ot going to hurt.

Repotted a week or so ago into a 50/50 mix of peat moss and rabbit poo (safe fertilizer to use straight).

Bigger of the two bananas (icecream?) seems to be thriving but tiny little gros michel seems to be wilting. Two leaves have turned yellow and perished. Thoughts?

General info: Temperature is between 87-75. They have artificial lighting (plant light) which is ~12 hours a day. There is a long piece of plastic enclosing the area to create an artificial greenhouse, and a humidifier keeping the air inside humid. They get a very light watering daily for now. (since the fresh soil is a tad on the dry side otherwise)

I agree watering to much. They dont dry out as fast in the house. Another thing ive learned is alot of nurseries bury them to deep. I pull the soil down untill I see the roots. I quit loosing babies when i started doing this.
