Default Expanded clay as medium in the soil?

Hello everyone
Today I was in a greenhouse
And I saw this bag
Of expanded clay
It states that is good for
Drainage ..
Would this be good to mix it
With peat moss and compost?
Or what other medium you suggest?
Thanks.

Do check out the hydroponic forums .....expanded clay.

.I have used it in mix's with soil and peatmoss

Really no benefit for the additional cost of this ammendment........Good to have... adds "air" to your mix
i use it because I do not want to compost this never-ending amendment.

Will you see huge gains....no.But his adds a lightness to your soil

Thanks
I was thinking that it will outlast the perlite
The perlite will degrade with time
Yes more expensive though

Just tossing out.....Perlite is forever..
I reuse perite from 15 years ago
The product will CRUSH over time but it will never degrade..
Perlite is Best amendment for a soilless mix.
Perlite will lighten up your soilless mix just the way you want it.

You will never go wrong with this amendment.

Supplies for the soilless mix for all of the plants.

Hi I want to re-pot the banana tree
The actual soil has 50%
Compost, 30% potting soil and
20% perlite .. Drainage seems ok
But it stays too moist for too long ..
Maybe is the reason I feel that I'm overwatering

There is a good chance you are heavy on the organics compost and potting soil.
Maybe increase the perlite to lighten up the soilless mix alittle to what your comfortable with. The fun part is finding your balance.

If you already have the hydro balls go ahead and try them...they are light and take up some space and won't hold excess water......worth a try.

This is peatmoss and perlite mix. About 50-50+-
You could even add crushed lump charcoal to the mix if you wish
Lots of air for the roots the thrive.
Click on the photo or link and see how the roots infiltrate the light mix.

Hi Cincinannas
No pictures of the mixing,
But I took pictures of the plants
After they were re-potted
Because I want to see the difference in growth and and leafs health
I will be taking more pictures during the growth
