Dry brown leaves
Hello fellow banana plants lovers,
First, thanks for all the great advices you share on this forum. I've read many threads in the last few months and they’ve all been very helpful. I’m a French speaker, please let me know if I’m not expressing myself clearly. So, my question is: I’ve had these two banana plants for some time, they are growing indoor under a small Ikea “grow light”. However, I must trim them very often since the edges of the leaves always turn yellow, then brown, until the leaf completely dies. Is that the normal cycle of life, or is there a problem with the air, watering or light? Here are pictures of my two plants. Plant one : https://ibb.co/efLFJ6 https://ibb.co/itQRQm https://ibb.co/iSbBrR Plant two: https://ibb.co/iG2O5m https://ibb.co/es935m https://ibb.co/i3vMrR Thank you so much! |

Great set up.. Here is my take.....add more light if possible. How.....for your small plants go to the store and get some Daylight cfls.. While this is a temporary inexpensive short term fix.....it will improve the health of your plants. For fun go to Youtube...dyi/grow lights/cannibis. Banana plants really need to be outside in the summer...but we are here to break the rules LOL.. What your plants are going through seems normal for a setup similiar to yours. Mine do it also. Re: Dry brown leaves
From the pictures, this could be over watering. Picture of the 2nd plant appear to show a self watering pot. These keep water in the bottom of the pot. The soil at the top can be dry while the pot bottom is soggy. Bananas need 'fresh' water, not stale water. Use pots with drain holes that allow the water to drain out into a saucer and raise the pot if necessary to keep the drain holes out/above the the water.
Using your finger to check soil moisture is only good for the top of the pot. Get a long stem moisture meter to check the soil moisture in multiple places and levels of the pot. Wet at the corm and dry at the outer edges of the pot would indicate a bigger pot is needed and/or possible root rot developing. |

Re: Dry brown leaves
good eye there ed. get rid of the self watering pots. bananas LIKE water but they are not aquatic, they drown. I like water to, but I am not in it all day, every day, year around.
