DC pup question
Still new at this, and was wondering about the pup starting to grow from my very juvenile DC. The plant is just a foot tall and starting to do well now that I have the watering thing under control. I have read that I should remove any new growth until the main plant is at least 3-4 feet tall. I have also read to let the pups alone until there are 3 or 4 of them, and then remove the new growth.
As I now have 2 DC's, in different size pots, I could approach it both ways. But I really want to hear all of your opinions. And yes, I am going for fruit as opposed to just decoration. Thanks! :03: |
Re: DC pup question
i leave them alone on all of my bananas until the pups get big enough to separate about a foot tall

Re: DC pup question
On my DC I had the same exact thing, the pups were only about 3-5 inches tall when I removed them and they survive to this day at other family member's homes. And, as far as I can tell, there was nothing adverse from doing so as long as you take at least a quarter size chunk of the mother corm with it and the pups should do ok.

Re: DC pup question
I do agree with Shaggy that DC pups tend to be very tough from a small size. If they are removed without major injury, they will grow at a slower pace at first. Then some 6 mths later, they will go boom! :ha:
I had a few removed from roadside clumps without the aid of a digging tool, kinda yanked off and they are living well today. I wanted a bunch of these for landscaping at my nursery and they are common by the roadside cos it's out of fashion here. |
