Default dc with poorly fomed leaves

tell me what is going on with this one. the last 3 leaves are coming out badly formed. each one is worse than the one before it. the water meter says its ok. and we haven't had any freeze, been underneath a plastic cover since it starting getting cold.

Id love to hear what causes this too. I have a Viente Cohol that did this. The first two leaves that came out looked like that.

i think it might be fertilizer. either not enough or to much. i am using a citrus fertilizer low numbers. none of the other plants the same size are doing this.

Enlarging the picture, it looks like something has eaten on the leaves when they were smaller. A bug or worm might be in the top of the plant. Look closely for any other signs or holes in the pstem.

You might try cutting off the deformed leaves and top 2 or 3 inches of the pstem above the older leaves. Dissect the cut pstem to check for any infestation. Watch the new leaves that grow to see if they are ok or show the same problems.

I actual had similar looking leaves. But these were caused by one of my chickens that found banana plants to be good-eating.

I cut some leaves that were browning and checked it over carefully. I saw nothing. the cigar leaf which is starting to unfold is showing a new leaf coming up. this leaf so far looks normal. I believe I will wait and watch before I do something drastic.

I know from experience that too much fertilizer (Which is easy to do when they are small) can make the leaves do really weird things. That would be my first guess, a random worm munching it's way thru a couple weeks ago would be my second.

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.

The leaf distortion is likely caused by either a calcium deficiency or 2,4D injury. In either case, it will help to fertilize with 1 tsp./gal. of calcium nitrate.

In the case of calcium deficiency, the situation is similar to BER in tomatoes. It usually happens while the plant is growing fast because roots can't absorb calcium fast enough to keep up with growth. If and when the growth slows, the symptoms often disappear. It is sort of self-correcting.
