To cut or not to cut that is the question

I have a musa basjoo - 2 years old - always been in a pot - not very big about 4 feet tall - live in upstate NY - bring it in during winter.

Should I ever cut this? Like you would an outdoor basjoo? And let it grow back.
Hmmmm?

Well if it were me I wouldn't cut it if it is a healthy plant. I don't know what you want the end result to be by wondering if you should cut it down. Did you want it to grow taller? If that's the case I'd fertilize and if it needs a bigger pot I'd do that also to promote growth.

No, its very healthy (except for the mites and scales but I'm working on that) - I was just thinking that if everyone else's get cut down in winter and maybe a cut might be good for mine.

I would love more but I live in upstate New York. One is hard enough, but I do love it.

I would say do NOT cut it. The only reason people ever cut plants is to reduce the size of them to bring them indoors for winter or to remove rot. Some members who overwinter in the ground will cut the stems back a bit and insulate around the remaining pseudostem. However, if your plant is healthy, not being overwintered outdoors or dormant indoors, and it isn't way too tall for your given grow space at this time, there is absolutely no reason to cut it.

Hope that helps!
