Brown/Black spots on cavendish/basjoo
 

Hi guys, I really don't know what it could be, but I'm sending you photos of my banana plants that have started getting spots on their beautiful leaves a few days ago. The plants are doing well for now, producing one leaf per week. I grow them in pots, under a grow light, with constant ventilation at 22 degrees Celsius. I've noticed a few tiny white insects that might be whitefly nymphs.

The plants look like they're doing great! One thing I learned the hard way, was not to stress out about the smaller little details if the overall health of the plant is good.

Now it's good that you have documented this, so that you can look back at it in the future if your plant continues to show more and more dead spots on the leaves.

But this can't always be attributed to external factors.

Potentially just the genetics of the plant misfiring in those spots.

Could be a nutrient deficiency, but due to how healthy the rest of the plant is doing, I doubt that one.

Might be the whiteflys, but they normally feed on the phloem sap, and as far as I'm aware the phloem bundles run through the psuedostem and mainstem.

I've found that NEEM Oil works as a great deterrent that makes it non harmful to the plant, and Neem it's self is a miracle tree. (different rant)


Just as a postface, I am in no way a banana 'expert' like the others here on this site. I saw that no one has replied to your post yet and didn't want you to get discouraged.

Thank you so much for your detailed advice and encouragement! I really appreciate your insights on the potential issues with my plant, and I'll definitely keep an eye on those points. I've also run into another issue, haha. Unfortunately, the leaves were bending a lot and I thought it needed water, but now it has developed many yellow leaves. I might have overwatered it. I've removed the yellow leaves and now my Cavendish has fewer leaves than before, and the soil is quite soggy. Fingers crossed that it recovers well. Thanks again for your help! :08:
