Banananers in Wisconsin
I thought I would share my container grown banana plant in wisconsin. I bought it last year and wintered it indoors. I just started fertilizing it this year to see how it would respond.
It is a dwarf cavendish and it has currently 6 pups around it, you can see the largest in the front. It is over 5 and a half feet tall from bottom of pot to leaf tip. ![]() |

How many inches in diameter is your pot? 20in?

Re: Banananers in Wisconsin
20inches sounds about right, I'd have to measure it when I get home for an exact size. It is funny it actually is starting to look too big for it's pot, looking at the picture of it.

Yeah that's he same size i have my dwarf cavendish growing in. But it's 2ft tall with 2 8 inch pups and a one inch peeper.

A picture I took earlier that shows the pups. The one larger one looks fantasitc with all the red spots. It is so funny how water hungry this plant is. I feel like I give it a over a gallon of water and on the hottest days it is gone by midday. During winter I hardly ever watered it. maybe a few glasses of water once a week or two.

Wider is better then taller if you decide to repot. I had my Dwarf Cavendish bloom in a half whiskey barrel. It wouldn't hurt to get some of those pups out of there so it doesn't get overcrowded.
The plant looks great!! |
Re: Banananers in Wisconsin
Yeah I just have been waiting for the pups because I want to have them be decent sized before I remove them. I am thinking about removing the largest one soon and thank you =D

Re: Banananers in Wisconsin
The main reason I would want to remove the largest is that it will take up room and could start to make the mother plant tilt. I can understand leaving a replacement though. It sits in front of my home, along with a small orange bird of paradise plant, so it would look kinda odd if it tilted to the side =D.
