2020 pots are outside and now thriving
i did put a couple in the ground though
like my biggest basjoo if it gets big enough i will try to mulch it and overwinter it outside (with back up pups indoors) anyhow the ensete ventricosums all died unfortunately quite sad as they were getting taller than me and then bugs, under watering and over watering killed them one was brought outside as a stump and made an attempt to put out some little leaves but died next year i guess just got some glaucum seeds in the mail... too late to try? tldr? here is the quick video walk through https://vimeo.com/436276685 |

Re: 2020 pots are outside and now thriving
not sure if these were in the video but i staked them yesterday because it had started to rain
left to right these ones are: basjoo, dwarf red possibly and a mystery one from a local source dwarf orinoco, dwarf green and hua moa the hua moa again and a dwarf cavendish which is loving the "banana nectar" and put out a new leaf gran nain, dwarf namwa, lacatan, tall namwa and supposed blue java here is another pic of the dwarf green... the mother plant was knocked over and died and the pup is growing like crazy here is another pic of the basjoo in the ground |

Some great additions to your garden. Looks like you are going to need some more grow lights for the off season. Last edited by cincinnana : 08-28-2020 at 11:28 AM. |

Re: 2020 pots are outside and now thriving
i gave away many plants this spring
at one point i had 125 or more banana plants (edit:two years ago) some may be returned this fall by people who dont want them in the house most people get attached to them and keep them though hopefully i can keep the same footprint in the basement edit: 930 am hummingbird at the monarda ! Re: 2020 pots are outside and now thriving
i need to start a new thread since the plants are not thriving anymore but that can wait until the come inside
the forecast for last night was not looking good (6C) so i set my alarm and at 4 am got the bbq going with an oscillating fan above it to blow warm air around the temperatures dipped lower than forecasted but only for a brief time i got the electric space heater out for a bit as the temperature kept dropping wasteful i know but it is the only cold night in the forecast for a while the long term forecast is all above 10C overnight i did not want to bring them inside already |

Re: 2020 pots are outside and now thriving
Same here, it was about 5C in the morning. I did nothing since I wasn't home. Everything looks ok aside from some minor signs of cold damage on my Veinte cohol pup... I am hoping to keep things outside for another month if possible.
