White stuff on stump
Hi all!
One of my plants was not doing very well due to a suspected choking of the leaves inside the stem, making the cigar leave wilt away. I had to cut it way back until beyond the point of the obstuction and after that it started doing fine again. I put it somewhere warm and under a growlight and it was happily recovering. This morning I noticed that the rims of the stump had turned white overnight, eventhough the cut had healed really well for a few days now. It looks like some tiny fungus-like growth, but I'm not sure. The air in the room is dry since it is heated by a soapstone fireplace, but I did moderatly water it yesterday which might have caused it. Is this something to worry about or is it just nature taking care of the old dead leaves without harming the new leaves? Here is a picture, I hope it is still clear enough after the resizing; [IMG][/IMG] Thanks! Karl

Obbiah is spot on... For me ....let the plant dry out a bit. I have molds which want to drive me crazy in my Cloches /Terrariums and fern incubators(plastic shoebox's with glass lids). Happens every year and is somewhat predictable when I bring plants inside No matter what I do I still get a few outbreaks. Molds love moisture ......deny them. A remedy is to add air movement and let the stem dry out......or cut it off. I use an inexpensive reciprocating fan to move air in my downstairs Jungle.. Re: White stuff on stump
have several now doing the same. They will do that all winter. some will die and the pups take over, hopefully in the winter unless you have a really good place for them with enough light and heat to match the sun or close to it, you are only keeping them alive. water much less, copper fungicide can help. keep a watch out for the tiny bugs, they will be worse if you don't see then right away. Neem oil or such if you do. it gets easier the longer you do it, the older they get the stronger they get.

Re: White stuff on stump
Thanks for your advices!
I'll cut back on the water and try an get some air circulation going, whilst keeping the fungicide option ready in case the above doesn't help.
