What is happening to my banana plant, and can I save it ?
 
Hello,

RockyMountainNanners here, and as the name suggests I live in Colorado and own a new dwarf cavendish plant starter that I’ve had for about 2 weeks now.

I gave it (what I thought) was a decent size pot to start out in, and it will be transferred to a much larger one once it is established. The pot has drainage in the bottom of and has Foxtail Farms ocean soil with a 8-10-8 fertilizer that I given it once in the very beginning. I water about twice a week until the water drains through.

Light wise, I have large south facing windows that get direct sunlight the entire day. At night I set it by my Aerogardens grow lights to get some small amount of light, just because. I have also been running a humidifier about 8 hours or so a day to raise the humidity in the dry Colorado air, and misting the leaves in between the humidifier not being on.

What the heck am I doing wrong? Pics related

It may be too wet, let it dry out between watering.

The soil is definitely not dry, but I wouldn’t say it’s muddy by any means. What would you recommend to save it ?

Let it dry out between watering, in the winter your plants will grow slow or go dormant. The roots are inactive and will rot in wet or damp soil. This applies to most indoor plants this time of year.

Follow the tips in previous posts.
Many times new plants are over loved in the beginning
The plant has signs of being over fertilized over misted and watered.

Let the plant dry out a bit so the roots can breatheand see how the plant responds..Good luck.

Would it be better to just take the plant out of the current soil and just re-plant without fertilizer/give it a very small amount of water so it’s not bone dry?

You may if you wish...but observe not keeping the plant watered excessively before a repot.
Keep in mind any changes you make to the plant will not be realized for a few weeks or more including the plants demise.
If you do make changes minimize disturbing the roots.
Hope your plant sorts itself out.
