I ordered two Ensete ventricosum Maurelii from Ebay, I thought the seller would wait till it warmed up the next few days, but they shipped them on the coldest day in the last week lol. Well they are frozen, and they also fell out of the packaging and the roots were dry. Do you think there is any hope that the corm is still alive, or should I just get a refund? Where the corm is feels kinda solid, of course it might just be because the tissue there is more dense.

Give it the sniff test and look for any green .....does not look good though.

Lowes in my area will sell them in the spring, yours might also.. 15 clams.

I'd ask for a refund within the time frame allowed; they look really bad to this new to bananas but not gardening person. Okay, they look hopeless. Unless they want them back, I would still plant them and, if they grow, arrange to pay the seller for the product even if they replace them. That's good juju and you can never have too many bananas, right?

Where I live its impossible to find anything interesting lol, I have never seen any bananas or ensete for sell anywhere around here, except for a old guy that owned a nursery, and he didn't even know what kind of banana it was lol.

I snipped off the leaves and the corm still looks kinda white and firm, I will pot them up, and if they start pushing new growth, I wont ask for a refund, even though I should. They look really rough lol.

In Ohio? I never saw anything approaching exotic except at Hirt's which was a couple of doors away from where I lived at one point. They were exceedingly proud of their figs that would never have survived that area outside--hang tags didn't mention that fact. (I did bring a fig from MD that, after dying to the ground 2 winters, was fruiting the final fall I was there--in MD she had breba and fall crops.)

Yes, Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana Lowes 15 to 60 bucks.
Actually bought mine in KY because the other stores were out.
The more south one goes the selection of tropical plants at Big boxes improves.

Basjoo and a few other flowering ornamental varieties are very cold hardy. Grow them out doors year-round.

Having worked as a landscaper in OH in the AKron area I can say with certainty that I never once saw anything approaching a banana growing in the area. Sure, I didn't see everyone's yard but nada. I am forever ruined, as my coworker and boss said I would be, because I cannot walk past a weedy bed without itching to pull out the offenders.

I've had people drive over from ohio to get bananas from me (We are in Muncie, east central Indiana), I do mail order but I had some larger ensete maurelii left over from this summer late. I fear they may be too large to ship cheaply since they are 3 feet tall now and in one gallon pots.I'm not getting in any small banana plants this year since I have plenty to sell here locally.
If you wouldn't mind spending some extra in shipping though, they are nice! Get ahold of me closer to your springtime and if it's still early in the season, I'd have time to get some shipped out for you.
In the meantime, file a claim with the person that shipped you those plants. They should have known better. If you have a heat pad, get those plants, what's left of them on that heat pad and in bright light. water fully, then let them go until they are approaching 3/4 dry before watering again. No fertilizer, but if you have some superthrive, a drop or two might not hurt. They are awfully small to have any kind of reserve energy to pull thorough something like that, but sometimes they surprise you...

I put some superthrive on them so hopefully they will pull through, just not sure how long it will be until they start pushing up new growth, if they did make it. I cut off all the wrinkled tissue on the stem until it looked kinda firm.
