Default Survived the winter, but now I have a nasty gopher

It seems that my banana plants have survived the winter. Now, i am battling something else: a nasty gopher has chosen to live in my banana mats and in my flower bed. In the past we have trapped them successfully, but this time it is a smarter one. I have tried the snap trap, black hole trap, gophernator gas bombs, road flares and also the gopher poison pellets.
I want him out of my yard ASAP and FOREVER!

Do castor bean plants get rid of gophers or just moles?

Use Tomcat jelly worms. Just stick one in a tunnel carefully without disturbing the tunnel too much and you won't see them reappear for years. I use a pair of long needle nose pliers. Available at HD and Lowes. Safe way to get rid of them with dogs and kids around. Lots of tunnels? --- just put them in spaced around the yard. This stuff works!

Cannot do the pee thing as my banana plants are in the front yard with lots of people walking by....
Have been hesitant to castor beans and Tomcat because of our dogs and neighbors cats, but I am so getting ready for it as I have seen some roots being eaten as well as some of my spring bulbs.

I have a home in Santa Barbara and was plagued by gophers for years. I planted everything in wire baskets and use several black holes and have killed many gophers. Make sure you wear gloves when you handle the traps. I covered part of the trap with weeds and really tried to make the trap part of the hole. They have several tunnels so make sure you place traps all around. Urine didn't help when I strattled the holes . Dog and cat feces didn't help either. I have tried everything. In my opinion the black holes are the best. Thankfully, we don't have gophers in Hawaii! Good luck!

My neighbor and I were amazed at how well Cinch traps worked. I'd been batting one old gopher for about 2 years. Got him with one of these traps as soon as I tried it. A nice thing about these traps is you don't have to put them in a main run, i.e., no digging. For the price, they are certainly worth a try.

Cinch trap video ------- cinch trap video - Yahoo! Search Results

This thing really works and no possible danger to dogs, cats, kids. Comes in different sizes and Cinch makes models for moles too.

Forget what I said about Tomcat.

Good find Mark!

Just after I had built and filled planter box #1 I was working on #2 when I saw a mole tunnel running on the surface. No veggies were planted yet. P'd me off! Didn't put a Tomcat worm though and the mole never came back. Two months now and haven't seen any more tunnels.

Cinch traps - gonna get me a few for this year.

This morning I found another mount between my Blue Java banana plants. Tried to find the hole, but because I had added several inches of fresh compost about 4 weeks ago, I did not find it to set traps. All just collapsed.. However, while moving the dirt I noticed tons of earthworms, redworms and some grubs. So that makes me want to try the Tomcat jelly worms. The Tomcat website says that it is only good to kill moles. Has anyone used the jelly worms with success to kill pocket gophers?

I tried that and they'd just close up that hole and dig one in a different direction. I guess if you kept up at it, eventually they'd leave your property!
