Chong...they definitely don't look like the lower photos. The splitting starts at the base of the petiole and extends down the pseudostem to the base. It isn't just splitting apart at the base as in the bottom pictures. I'm not sure if I can't see exactly what's happening in the upper photos or what, but it doesn't look quite like that either. Mine look just like the picture Just J posted...only with smaller plants (they're about a foot tall right now). The leaves are all still alive and fine...it just looks like you started to shuck an ear of corn (I'm from Iowa...forgive my rural analogies )

Couple of mine look like Chong's upper pic w/ leafs pulling away from stem. I think it's from too cold & too much moisture.
I also have some splitting at base which I think is good! It means it's growing fast & base is swelling & leafs are splitting there. I think warm weather & sun (& good drainage) will all help.
