Default Spring pruning of trunk

I received two new plants from a seller.raga puri and mekong giant. They had good roots and a two foot trunk or stem about 6 or 7 inches in circumference. There was no leaf s these were lost at the border. My question the top cut on each was parallel to the ground, been in the ground 1 weel and each has 1 to two inch new growth. I have heard this cut should be angled to reduce constriction, should I recut it or let it be?
