Hi ya'll. So, I tried to remove a pup from my new banana and I followed ALL the instructions as best I could from youtube and on here, When I finally pulled the baby out, it seems I got a good portion of the corm, but I did not notice any roots, unless they were tiny.
Anyway, I see mixed answers on whether this will survive and grow its roots- I saw someone say to cut off all its leaves and that will give it a better chance to develop a healthy root system? Your thoughts? Appreciate ya'lls help!! PS. I would post a photo but it wont let me upload anything to the gallery? idk

yes there is a lot of ways to do it. here is the way i do it.

your plant has been sucking off of mother so it wont be putting out roots right away. but it will put out roots if planted properly.

keeping it dry in a pot is the secret using potting soil.

i use a 3 gallon pot, anything smaller [6inch or smaller] is hard to keep dry.

1/3rd to 1/2 perlite mix for well a well draining pot. if you dont have perlite for the time being you can use just potting soil. but you want your potting soil to be dry to next to dry.

i use leaves in the bottom to cover the holes and then put my potting soil packing it in with my fingers. i fill to right next to the top. with my banana planted i take a cup of water and pour around the edge of the pot taking care not to water next to the plant.

last put the plant somewhere it cannot get rained on and gets no direct sunlight. very low light. porch, car port, dining room.
i dont cut off leaves but you can do it.

If you have viable corm it will grow roots.. I put them in a pot or in the ground w/o much worries.. Especially when its hot. Alot of shade for the 1st 2 weeks. I tend to mix in morizie fungi ( I know I butchered the name. lol) w/ my dirt mix.. 2 weeks hit it w/ that root helper.. It also helps grow more pups so I don't use it much..

It wouldn't hurt to try to put it in the ground and see if it grows! :) Of course you probably already did since October 2nd!

We are new to transplanting, too, and found that when we separated the pup, if we used a flat edged shovel, placed it between the mother and the pup, and then scooped the shovel AWAY from the mother, it preserved the pup's roots growing on the outside edge. I don't know if that makes sense. ;) One of the pups we were trying to transplant did die, and that was because we scooped the shovel from outside to inside and broke off the roots growing from the outside edge of the pup.
