For men beards seem to be coming back in style.

But for banana leaves???

Seriously, these strings seem to continue right into the leaf. Or growing out of it ?
Let us know, how that develops.

Thanks,
Olaf

I might be completely wrong, but that looks like the way Oriole birds start their nests underneath the banana leaves. Have you seen Orioles in your neighborhood?

Hi "Crazy",

after googling 'Oriole nests bananas' I have come to the conclusion, that you are most
likely correct. As a matter of fact some of the pictures displayed there came from this
very website, though none of them answered my big question, as to where they get
these white "strings" from and how do they insert them into the leaves???

Yes, see my thread here on bananas.org from last year "Oriole bird nest under banana leaf". Sorry cannot copy the link to it here, because I am posting from my phone.
I think that the "white strings" you are referring to, are filifera filament fibers from the Washingtonia Palm tree which is also called a Mexican Palm here in Southern California. The Orioles are weaving it into the banana leaves with their beaks. Have witnessed it several times again the past 3 month.
