Default New Plant help, something not right

Hey there! My brother gave me a four footer about a month ago. So far, I have had it next to a window that gets great sunlight for the majority of the day. The top leaf has been up but not uncurling for the entire month I have had it. I tried cutting the top of it off because it had dead material and I read that it may be causing it to not unfurl. When I got the plant it was in a tiny planter so I removed and put in one about twice the size(still not huge). My brother told me it should not be taking this long for that new leaf to open. Any help would be appreciated. I can attach pictures in the morning.

I don't know your location but it's the dormant season and growth will slow and maybe even stop until spring. Don't over water it as it's using very little water when dormant.

I am in Kentucky. The leaf has been curled up for over a month now, should it be opening, even though it’s winter? One of the leaves is turning yellow as well. If I can figure out how to post a picture on here I am going to

They will lose older leaf's, but over watering can cause yellowing also. They do choke, you can cut some of the top off and see if that helps.

Pic of one of mine that choked, leaf's bunch up and sometimes pop out the side of the P-Stem.

This is what my plant looks like now. I have stopped watering it, but the middle leaf has been rolled up since I got it... about 7 weeks ago. What should I do?

Ok, So this seems like normal winter behavior? Leaves yellowing and the middle rolled leaf not unrolling?

Hi ,Hyper
yeah.....this tropical plant needs lots of tropical conditions to thrive....real pain in the a$$.

There are some good tropical plant youtube vids (which apply to bananas)
that have info you can take away and use.

If you are real serious ...check out some of the cannibis forums ....the method is the same to grow both plants. Untitled by Hostafarian, on Flickr

Hyperhaus5 Answered his own question: this IS like normal winter behavior! Leaves yellowing and the middle rolled leaf not unrolling!

Give little water so as not to cause root rot, and no fertilizer till spring.
