New leaves are brown, whats going on?

Hi all,

I planted 6 types of bananas in a banana circle a few months ago here in Southern Spain 9a. Now two of them (which are next to each other) are looking bad. Even the new leaves that come out are already brown and look somewhat rotten. I've attached a few pics, also of a new leave that still had to unfold and wasn't that bad yet. Its part brown, part white.

Any idea what's going on? Is it a virus of some sort? I don't want it to affect the others.

Hey Platanera,

Thank you for sharing the pictures they are really helpful. I'm no expert by any means, but I'm glad to help the best I can. At first glance, it appears to be heat stress/sun scorch. How do the other plants look? Is the soil different in that location? Bananas can do things like this when the plants get stressed. One way to tell if they're heat stressed is the leaves will fold down along the midrib. I would recommend to increase water to the plants and place some compost or manure around the base. This will provide some good nutrition to the plants and help nurture the soil. After that, I would try to place some mulch over the compost to help insulate the roots and help regulate moisture. After two or three weeks, if your seeing some improvement, you could try a well-balanced fertilizer at half-strength. I would wait to fertilize them until you see solid green, healthy leafs. I hope this helps! Greetings from the USA!

I think this could be due to a fungal or bacterial infection like Panama disease, or potentially root rot from overwatering in your banana circle. What did you do?
