Just in the last month several of my plants have had the leaves seperating from the P-Stem. At first I cut them off but it got to the point that the P-Stem lost its strenght. Well last night we had a storm and I lost 2 Siam Rubies because the wind broke them over...I don't know if its a nutrient thing, or what? This never happened last year and just started this year especially with the rubys...Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

When the plants are small is normal that this separation of the leaves of the pseudostem happens, but when it began to develop the new pseudostem you could have used some product with amino acids since these serve as antistress, or by drought, wind, stress by too much water etc.

Hey Stump , this symptom seems to be the "temperate climate pandemic". My uneducated guess is that it stops when it warms up.

Well all I can say my Orinoco & canna has the same problems. I am going to switch to a High acid fert. or mabe try epson. My ground has allot of clay in it. Or mabe I will dump a can of beer on them for last resort.(alcohol abuse)

Same thing here on a couple. I too thought it was the cold. One is getting better now w/ temps getting warmer.
Maybe too much water?? That's gotta be a heartbreaker :(.

Hello stumpy 4700 would want to know if your plants of banana tree have by the amount of leaves that I could observe including that the wind damage and approximately you approximately cut 3 to 3,5 months of seeding in the pot.

Does he want to see a pic of the leaves so he can guess the age of the plant???
I dunno..you can't tell the age by the leaves anyway!

I think I'm still confused but if you are asking how many leaves the plant has had I would guess about 20 to 25 for the largest plant. Sorry but maybe someone who can translate in spanish to english. I applaude you as your english is much better than my spanish. sorry

Hello stumpy4700 and other members: I´m used traductor of english for spanish.Traductor is in my computer.

I wanted to know I number of leaves because the age of the plant can be guessed right. Patty is right. Therefore if the plants in the photo had then around 10 to 12 leaves could have 2,5 to 3 months of age and this process is normal (separation of the leaves of the pseudostem. It is not necessary to be alarmed. Later I will send photos with this symptom but seeded in the field.

Thanks jfern, both plants are over 1.5 years old. The Siam Ruby was overwintered in the house and the dwarf Nino was overwintered in the crawlspace. None of these plants had this last year which is why it concerned me. The nino was cut down to the corm and the ruby was about 3 to 4 feet tall when I brought it back outside.

Just tie rags around the stems to keep them together and they'll get better eventually. I don't know why they do that but some of mine do that sometimes too.

Its probably not a good idea to tie the leaves and give the aphids and other bugs a safe haven. But I think its caused from too little humidity. My plant stopped doing since I began misting it every morning. Or maybe it just outgrew the problem. I dont know, and my plants are over a year old also.

the winds were bad here during that storm. i had a leaf of an ee do this. i just wacked it back and i got a new leaf from the roots. last year this happened with a nana i proped the leaf up , put the nana in the shade and watered it a lttle each day. now it is fine... its the dwarf oronico to the right in the pic.
