There is almost no info out there about it, so I assume it is rare...?

Just found a brief summary that says Its a post harvest disease.Commercial growers' remedy is fungicide. I have found a few instances of it in our picked bunches where the hands have been divided and left to ripen.

Maybe try getting a bucket of water with a capful of bleach in it and soaking the hands a few minutes in it after dividing. That should fix it I would think. Safer and much cheaper than commercial fungicides as well.

Thanks Steve,
After dehanding a bunch I always emerse the hands for a few minutes in a a tub of tap water with a slurp of bleech and washing-up detergent.
Maybe the heavy rain we've had contributed to the likelyhood of the Squirter. I'm sure the water bath helps though.
