I give up on my banana...
 

I've followed the advice of many people who have responded to my previous posts. I've cut all browned roots off the corm and replanted it deeper so the corm is completely covered in sandy soil. All that is left now is a tiny black stalky thing. I've noticed it's not taking in any water anymore. Last time I've watered it was 6 weeks ago and there's been no change in the moisture indicator. This is what's left above ground:



Thank you all for your help. If I remember correctly, JBijl offered to send me a new banana, so I will contact them to see if that offer still stands!

EDIT: PUP INCOMING!! :D I dug up the corm today and there was a pup right smack dab in the middle of the corm!

don't give up. springs coming, it will come up if your pot is not to wet and the corm does not rot.

I admit, it doesn't look good.
I would gently remove it from the pot and even more gently remove the dirt, a little at a time to see if it has any live roots and if the corm is still solid.
After that, I am not certain what to do as it depends on what you find.
If no roots but a solid corm, remove all dead and rotted material and replant in sand, water sparingly and wait.
Probably do the same if it does have roots, just do not damage the roots.
Hopefully someone else who has done this will chime in soon...

I 100% agree and recommend exactly what Steve says. I've saved worse looking ones in sand but honestly it all depends on corm size and if it's still solid or not.

As I stated in your last thread: I would plant in in coarse sand and would move it away from the windows and heating source...
This is not coarse sand. And it's still by the window...
Dig it, wash it and post a pic. We'll tell you what to do with it.
We all lost a few nanners in the past, that's the process of learning. If you listen to what we say, you might save $$$ in the future.

The heat is off, no radiator is on within 4 meters of what's left of the plant. I'll dig it up again tomorrow.

I see from the above photo, the stalk has rotted out hollow leaving the center growing part. ... The fungus infection has entered the top of the corm.

It's not likely that stalk will regrow at this point. Any new growth would have to be from any viable grow points, if these have not rotted too, at the top of the corm; or if the corm is able to start a sucker.

Follow the above instructions to inspect and repot. Set the corm in the corner, hope for the best. ... Then go buy/get a new plant to baby.

I've dug up the corm and to my pleasant surprise, there's a nice pup forming!! The corm is nice and solid, no soft spots whatsoever.

And to clear up on drainage, there's about 2 cm difference in depth between the inside and outside pot, and the inside pot is supported by the rim of the outside pot. Is that enough?

yes, planting it deeper in the pot saved it. the inside pot was sealing the water in the inside pot. and the only way for the water to escape was the few times you drained it, so when it was not drained it would have to evaporate back thru the soil and past the corm. by the look of the roots they were way to wet and rotting. take something and put it under the inside pot so the top rim does not touch the outside pot, not much get the rim up about 3, 4 millimeters. that way air can flow between the 2 pots. then water can evaporate between them. but it would still be better to just set the plastic pot on a plate. the way you had them they were self watering and that is not what you want. glad to see it coming back. or buy you a designer pot with the matching plate.

Nice. I'm happy for you. Clean that up, cut the dead stuff with clean tools and replant in pure coarse sand. It'll come back faster and better.

Great! ... Repot in sand and PUT a saucer under the pot. When you see water in the saucer, pour it out!

The larger white roots do not take up water. The fine hair roots do and those are clearly rotting. They should not be black or even dark brown.

The pup looks good.

The white roots are all coming from the pup. I've taken all the tiny brown roots off since they were really tightening the clump. All that was left before I repotted it (I've mixed some soil from outside which was mostly sand into the mix) was the corm, the thick roots from the corm and the white roots from the pup. I haven't patted anything down, to make sure the pup won't be squashed.

I've put in some thick beads under the inside pot, any water that's in there can evaporate easily now.

Nice it's in the clear now as long as you do not overwater. Water half what you was watering or less. Non established plants that are forming new roots need moist to dry soil. Water once per week max during the next month or so. Congrats on saving it. Great job!

Great job! You did it! Keep doing what your doing! Once it gets a 4-5 leaves then up the watering a bit.
