HELP! Yellowing, brown spots and droopy leaves. What disease?
My red ensente looks HORRIBLE! I live in Florida where it is humid and we get a lot of rain but i have never in the 3 years I've owned these bananas had them look like this. The leaves are yellow and have brown spots. The leaves also completely collapse over and droop.
The pics show the leaves torn up but that's only because we had a hurricane last week that shredded the leaves from the wind. I also feed my bananas Banana Fuel, 15-5-30 weekly and they are in full sun. Could this be cordana leaf spot? Panama disease?Cyclamen mite? |

Re: HELP! Yellowing, brown spots and droopy leaves. What disease?
The second pic sure looks like sigatoka leaf streak of some sort, but not the whole plant. Something else is weakening the plant and the Sigatoka is just taking advantage of the situation. I sure hope it's not Panama disease.
How long has it been doing this? Have you began doing anything different since about a month before this first appeared? Banana fuel every week sounds a bit much, have you done that long?

I think you are over fertilizing. You didn't said how much fertilizer is being applied, but I believe weekly application is too much. For now hold off the fertilizer and don't over water. Let the ground dry out some.

Re: HELP! Yellowing, brown spots and droopy leaves. What disease?
thanks everyone. The Banana Fuel says to fertilize every 7-14 days. I havent fertilized them for about 2 weeks as i knew we would have a TON of rain with all the storms. Could this be caused by wet soil plus crazy humidity?
I will spray them with copper tonight and hopefully that helps! Should i cut off all the leaves? |

Re: HELP! Yellowing, brown spots and droopy leaves. What disease?
Soaked ground and flooding for several days can cause root damage and leaching away plant nutrients. Lack of potassium & phosphorus would cause the leaves to yellow from the margin inward. ... High nitrogen fertilizer can damage the roots too. Deceasing the plants ability to take up nutrients. Nitrogen overload caused the leaf too yellow from the inside/center outward. Nitrogen overload doesn't appear to be the case. But I think high nitrogen could have burned & damaged the roots reducing nutrient uptake before a nitrogen overload may show.
The smaller banana plant in your picture seems to show curled edges. Blowing up the picture there appears to be slight fading or yellowing of those edges too. From your above post, you indicated there was 'ton of water' & storms. Try to get the area dried out and apply a small amount of slow release fertilizer to help the roots regrow. This is just my take on what I see in the photo. |

Trim off all dead or severely damaged leave alone.
