HELP!! My Ice Cream is looking really bad.
 

I got this on trade and it seemed to be doing ok(growing some). Then the top two petioles started to die off from where it was cut to ship. Then the cigar leaf coming out looked like it was starting to rot too. Then today i checked on it and the cigar fell over. I was thinking of chopping it off below the rot and leaving the bottom leaves on. What should i do?

I would definitely cut until you reach fresh clean tissue. Good luck. It look(ed) like a nice nana.

Is it me or is it really wet? By chance, did you happen to drown it? If so, stop watering it for a few days and give it a lot of sun. If that doesn't help, cut off the rotted section.

Just what U said. And be carefull with watering. Better less than any. And avoid direct sun too.

Yeah, definitely on the wet side..I'd let it dry out for some time till its dry 6 inches down for sure.

It wasnt that wet i just watered it(It looks like it was really wet because i turned to pot to get a better pic)...I kept it in the shade for over a week and switched from filtered sun to part sun to almost full sun.

Like Salty said I would cut it back to clean tissue. That may mean almost half of the stem. I would put it back in filtered sun until you see some new growth. Did the plant have good roots when you got it? I would check the roots to make sure they are still good.

OK...Good News!!! I chopped it down to green tissue on Sunday evening. I checked it Monday morning before i went to work out of town for a couple days and it grew about an inch overnight! Then i got home a few hours ago from work and went out to check on it in the dark and i was blown away to see a new leaf almost all the way popped out! I cant believe how much it grew. I took pics of how big it was Monday before i left and ill take a pic of it tomorrow in the light. So if its growing that good already do you guys think im in the clear and it should be ok???

Your banana plant will come out of it. at onetime i had bananas in pots on concrete it gets really hot on the roots of the bananas

Here it is today(3 days later). It has almost put a full leaf out already!! I cant believe how tough these plants are!!

Here it is exactly 1 month later....Its doing great and growing better than all my other bananas. Thanks for the help everybody!

Wow, quite the recovery! Looks great now! I'm guessing it was just some issue associated with the shipping/transplant and a change in conditions that cause the issues. I'm glad to see that it's doing well, though. Thanks for the update!

Looks like a nice recovery. Ice cream bananas are very tough. Mine was starting to rot from under the soil (I think) because it was falling in its pot no matter how much I propped it up. So I decided to re-pot it, this time a little deeper. In a week it was able to hold itself up pretty well and by 2 weeks it was strong enough for it to stay up all by itself. It started putting leaves out like crazy and although it only grew about a foot to a foot and a half of new stem, I think when It goes in the ground next year, its going to grow like crazy!
