I have had my potted dwarf Cavendish for about a month. It has been thriving and giving a new leaf about once a week. It has been very hot here in south FL, and yesterday I noticed a couple of the lower leaves turning brown. Today, the damage is worse and I also now see spider mites on the leaves. I gave the entire tree a good watering, washed away some of the mites, and put it in a more shady spot. What might have gone wrong - sunburn, not enough water? How can I save my sad tree? that pot have holes in the bottom? it needs to drain.

over watering in pots is a common issue. I cant answer that question directly, but indirectly I can answer. to explain; all my plants spend very little time in a pot. I put them in the ground fast as I can. in good ground it is hard to over water a banana.

but in a pot, now that is a very different animal.it is very very easy to over water a banana. you need a very good draining pot first. then you need very well draining potting soil. water once a week when they are small. little more water when they get bigger. depending on the species. I know pots to be difficult.

I would start by drilling some more holes in your pot. a hardware store would carry masonary bits that would do the job with care. 3/8 would be the smallest I would go.

If you want to see that plant 'take off' and grow put it into a 25 or 30 gal pot with a 50%/50% potting soil & perlite. Make sure there are a lot of drain holes in the bottom and round the sides. Do not put large rocks or broken pot shards in the bottom. Soil mix only!

Looks like a good case of heat stress.
Containers especially ceramic hold a lot of residual heat.
Your plant has outgrown its pot so another pot might be in order.
Your on the fine line of to much heat and overwatering and fertilizing.

The corm is stressed, definitely move it to a larger container, I have never had any luck with plants in a container, it needs space to exapand so that the corm can fully develop and provide the necessary nutrients to the crown for optimum fruit development
