Hey everyone,
Thanks for all the great info shared on this site, I am having a blast learning a different approach to growing that bananas require. On a previous thread I mentioned my failure to put ammonium sulfate down in the weeks after planting. My new leaves went from nice and green to almost yellow with holes and tears. I believe a thread I read suggested that the handling of a plant when planting can have some short term effects that might explain a few damaged leaves. I had done some other fertilizing but finally figured out the need for Amm sulf. Because they were just planted I spread out the A.S. over a few days, they got the most on the first day. Since then the older leaves are getting very nice and green and growth is good, but the new leaves are still very pale almost 7 days after the first boost. So far all the pale leaves are greening up after a few days and look good then. I gave them a strong blast of some fox farms nutes a few days later and they look very good when the blazing sun isnt out. Just wanted to be sure about the tattered new leaves not being an insect of some sort. I need the help of a friend to learn how to include photos, sorry.
On a positive note the 2 ladyfingers have each put out 2 pups. The tallest appears to be a spear so far, it is 5" today. I have a problem with birds digging around the base and almost digging up the pup. I quickly covered it back up and put some large pieces of the wood mulch over it. So far so good. Any suggestions on this would be appreciated.
Well the other thing I do not know is how much the onset of blazing heat is causing these changes just as the plants are also trying to get established. They are covered in shade screen and naturally shaded after 3.
I am amused at how many of us look at our banana habit as addictive, it really is. If I lived in Hawaii it might become OC.

where's the other thread that discusses putting ammonium sulfate down? I just planted 30 odd red dwarfs and dwarf brazilian's and my red dwarfs aren't looking so perky. I'd be interested if there's anything better I can do to get those perked up.

I found this article I just transplanted three bananas so will be buying some ammonium sulphate tomorrow.
