I'd do nothing but I'm not growing for looks; if someone replies and says I should be more vigilant I'll do better. But I wanted to say what a wonderful way to camouflage a not so pretty view and add privacy to your lot; I hope you post this before along with an after picture when your mats fill in.

Growers choice......
If the leaf is unsightly.....then cut it off.
The plant will usually not skip a beat.

Now that fall has arrived.......ALL of my plants will have a yellow /torn /old leaf that will be trimmed, on a daily basis.
You may trim the older leaves off.

Your plants look awesome!

I'll say; if it's green, don't cut it!

A split leaf like that is the best indicator of good growth in the center of your plant. The center is expanding very fast. The opposite situation - almost no expansion - creates a "barky" p-stem covered with old dead leaves that have not been pushed off by growth.
